This is No. 28 on the Record-Courier's list of 30 Things To Do in Portage County.

Explore the Devil’s Icebox cave at Nelson Kennedy Ledges State Park

In the northeastern-most corner of Portage County, moss-covered cliffsides and jagged, rocky crags are set apart from the open wheat fields and dense woodlands. Nelson-Kennedy Ledges State Park offers visitors a chance to dance on the edge of ravines and slide through tight passageways of natural rock formations. Oh, and there’s also a waterfall or two.

Formed thousands of years ago by melting glacier ice, the rock walls now tower over visitors. And in one section, the Devil’s Icebox, you can get a feeling of those cold glacial ices as you step into the cavern. Be sure to follow the marked trails and keep clear of the metal railings before you fall.
