William (Bill) R. Slezak, age 87, passed away July 10, 2017 at home with his loving family by his side.
Bill was born May 11, 1930 in Akron, Ohio to Andrew and Bertha (Prohaska) Slezak. He served his country for 2 years in the US Army constructing bridges and runways in Korea. Bill attended Kent State University earning his Master's degree in Vocational Education. His career included being a machine trade teacher, school administrator, and overseeing the design and construction of Alliance High School and Maplewood Career Center where he became their first Director.
Bill had an inquisitive and creative mind, always looking for new projects or solutions to problems. He enjoyed woodworking, creating beautiful furniture, playing the accordion, boating and traveling. They moved from Ohio to Holland, Michigan in 1999, spending winters in Florida and Arizona. Bill was a member of Iota Lambda Sigma and life-long member of the Elks Lodge.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife Betty of 34 years; his sister, Barbara Berg; children, Rick (Connie) Slezak, Andrew (Sheila) Slezak, Kathryn (Rich) Goebelbecher, step-children, Michael (Terri) Sturdevant and Linda (Jim) Parker; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Bill was preceded in death by brothers, Andrew and Raymond.
A Memorial service is Noon on Saturday, July 22 at Langeland Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E. 16th Street, Holland, MI preceded by a time of visitation from 10:00-Noon. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Hospice of Holland or First United Methodist Church of Holland.
