For the second straight Saturday, the Ravenna Mustangs won in thrilling fashion.
And for the second straight Saturday, the game-winning hit was slugged by Tyler Stelzer in an 8-6 I League win over Alliance's MAC Trailer Services.
One week removed from a walk-off home run in Ravenna Hot Stove regional action, Stelzer came to the plate in the bottom of the fifth inning on Saturday with a runner on first base and the score deadlocked 6-6.
Stelzer swung at an 0-1 pitch and lifted it high into the right field sky that backpedaled the outfielder and fell for a hit.
Teammate Dom Dozanti, who had led off the inning with a walk, scored from first base and Stelzer raced around the base-paths for a triple and a 7-6 Mustangs lead.
Stelzer then scored on a double ripped by Brayden Brooks. The insurance run gave Ravenna an 8-6 advantage.
Brooks then closed the door on the victory in the top of the sixth inning with a 1-2-3 frame, striking out the side, and lifting the Mustangs into today's I League regional championship matchup with Sarchione Chevrolet.
Sarchione Chevrolet defeated Ohio Rack, 12-11, on Saturday.
Today's regional-title game will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Volunteer Park's field No. 1.
The Mustangs and MAC Trailer Services each got off to a fast start on Saturday, with both teams plating five runs in the first inning, including a home run belted by Stelzer for the Mustangs.
Alliance then snared a 6-5 lead in the top of the third inning. Ravenna answered with a run of its own in the bottom half of the inning.
Both Brooks and Stelzer scored a pair of runs for the Mustangs, while Clayton Crow, Kooper Russell, Ryan Kelly and Dozanti each scored a run.
Crow also pitched the fifth inning, striking out the side.
I League rules are set up for a coach to pitch the first three innings of the game, followed by players pitching the final three innings. No one player can pitch more than two innings per game.
